Constructed with the new Towns Fund Grant

The Sidings couldn’t have happened without the grant funding from both the Newhaven Towns Fund and Lewes District Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).

The Towns Fund is a new Government initiative to support towns like Newhaven and it could see up to £25m being invested in various projects across the town. The Sidings benefited from a £500k grant from this fund and is one of the first projects across the country to deliver a scheme.

CIL is an open competition for funds, and we successfully obtained £354k to develop further phases for the Sidings e.g. additional containers.

Newhaven is also going to benefit from additional grant funding through the Future High Streets Fund

The Sidings is also part of the Newhaven Enterprise Zone and the activities being introduced now will support the future development of the area.

Newhaven is ‘Going Places’, with a great potential for businesses growth and stunning natural coastal features backed by the rolling South Downs countryside. The town is being re-energised around a vibrant community and offering a great alternative vibe to Brighton or Lewes. It appeals to people who love it’s real, raw and natural beauty.

The Newhaven Enterprise Zone is a collaboration between Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership and the Lewes & Eastbourne District Council. Newhaven is evolving to become an important harbour town offering huge opportunities for business growth especially with emerging and innovative green technologies.

Newhaven is also home to a vibrant creative scene, innovative marine businesses and has great potential to become a high-performing urban economy.

The Enterprise Zone is delivering a new era for the town. Working with local businesses, local partners and the community, its energy is helping to drive forward change to create a prosperous harbour town and an attractive place to live and work.

THE SIDINGS

The first phase of the site is the impressive waterside bistro, supported by the community courtyard, and community spaces ready to promote the river, cycling and walking. Later phases will include additional container space to support more social enterprises.
